TAL SUPPLIED KEY COMPONENTS TO FLAGSHIPCHRISTIAN BARNARD MEMORIAL HOSPITAL PROJECT IN CAPE TOWN
Address: 13 Rua Bartholomeu Dias Plain, Cape Town City Centre, Cape Town
Scope: Preparation and levelling of floors for vinyl sheeting installation
Area: Surgical theatres, neo-natal and maternity wards
CHALLENGES FACED
The removal of the existing carpeting in the building left the substrate uneven and therefore unsuitable to receive the new carpet tiles. Levelling and smoothing of the substrate prior to installation of the new floor coverings required a fast track installation, due to the tight deadlines of the refurbishment project.
SOLUTION
A two-level system for fast-tracked levelling of floors in a high-rise building
Level 1-
Priming system. A primer of TAL Floorkey was applied as a slurry prior to installation of the underlayment system.
Level 2 –
Underlayment system. TAL Screedmaster Industrial self-levelling and smoothing underlayment was used to correct floor levels left uneven by the removal of the old floor coverings.
INTERESTING FACTS
The buckets of screed were heavy and physically challenging for the applicators to move around the multi-storey building. TAL solved this challenge by providing two-wheel trolleys for easier mixing, transportation and pouring of the product at the points of application. Storage space on site was limited, so rather than deliver the full order of TAL Screedmaster that was required for the project, more frequent deliveries were made throughout the duration of the project. This ensured that the underlayment installation continued on-site without interruption, and without taking up valuable storage space.
